'One Day at a Time' Canceled at Pop, Will Shop to Other Outlets

One Day at a Time has been cancelled again.

The sitcom, a reboot of the 1975 sitcom of the same name, was cancelled at Netflix back in 2019 after three seasons before being picked up at Pop, where it aired Season 4 earlier in 2020. The show was once again cancelled, according to Variety on Tuesday (November 24).

However, “according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, series producer Sony Pictures Television will shop the series to other outlets yet again,” the outlet reports.

Here’s a synopsis: One Day At A Time follows three generations of a Cuban-American family. A newly-single mom and military veteran (Justina Machado) journeys through the triumphs and tribulations that come with raising two strong-willed, mega-millennial children (Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz), all the while enlisting the “help” of her old-school mother (Rita Moreno) and her building manager-turned-invaluable confidante (Todd Grinnell). The series also stars Stephen Toblowsky.

Despite not having much commercial success, the four seasons held an average 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fox recently revealed the renewals and cancellations for their network.

'One Day At a Time' Takes Jab at Netflix in Season Premiere on Pop TV

Pop TV saved the show One Day at a Time when Netflix decided to cancel the show after three seasons.

In the season four premiere of the show, airing later this month, the stars take a jab at Netflix.

In a newly released clip, the family is deciding what to watch on movie night.

“Did you decide what we’re watching for movie night?” Penelope (Justina Machado) asks her family.

“No, it’s like there’s nothing good on Netflix anymore,” Penelope’s son Alex says in response.

The show’s co-creator says the jab is all in good fun!

“It has been no secret that we really do love them and we love each other,” series co-creator Gloria Calderón Kellett told EW. “On both sides, there’s been really lovely things said. We’ve said lovely things to them and they’ve said lovely things to us. We’re very grateful for the three seasons, but now we can kind of make fun of it. Hey, they did break up with us. So we get to have a little bit of fun with that. I think that’s allowed all in good fun.”

'One Day at a Time' Gets Second Life at Pop, Returns in 2020!

Amazing news for fans of the show One Day at a Time!

The beloved series has been renewed for a fourth season by Pop TV and 13 new episodes will premiere in 2020.

One Day at a Time, which stars Justina Machado and Rita Moreno, was previously canceled by Netflix.

“Three months ago, I was heartbroken with the news of our beloved One Day At A Time’s cancellation. Today, I’m overwhelmed with joy to know the Alvarez family will live on,” said executive producer Norman Lear. “Thank you to my producing partner, Brent Miller, our incredibly talented co-showrunners, Mike Royce and Gloria Calderón Kellett, and of course, Sony, for never once giving up on the show, our actors or the possibility that a cable network could finally save a cancelled series that originated on a streaming service. And one last thank you to, Pop, for having the guts to be that first cable network. Even this I get to experience – at 96.”

One Day at a Time will also be aired on CBS later in 2020, after the initial run on Pop.

'One Day at a Time' Finds New Home, But Netflix Might Block It

The beloved series One Day at a Time, which aired for three seasons on Netflix before being canceled last month, might possibly live to see more seasons.

CBS All Access is reportedly interested in saving the series from cancellation, but it’s being reported that Netflix won’t allow the deal to go through.

Netflix has the right to veto any streaming network from picking up the show for at least two years after cancellation. While the show’s executive producer Norman Lear has reached out to Netflix to help save the show, it seems the effort might not work.

“It appears Netflix is unwilling to budge and allow One Day to shift to the much, much smaller CBS All Access,” Vulture reported.

One Day at a Time could still be picked up by a cable network without getting Netflix’s permission.

'One Day at a Time' Cancelled By Netflix & They're Explaining the Reason Why

One Day at a Time has been cancelled by Netflix, and the streaming service is explaining why they made the decision to cancel the show after three seasons.

“We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” the streaming service explained in a series of tweets.

“To Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rita Moreno: thank you for inviting us into your family. You filled this show with so much heart and warmth and love, it truly felt like home,” Netflix added. “And to anyone who felt seen or represented — possibly for the first time — by ODAAT, please don’t take this as an indication your story is not important. The outpouring of love for this show is a firm reminder to us that we must continue finding ways to tell these stories.”

'One Day at a Time' Gets Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix!

A third season of One Day at a Time is on the way after fans campaigned for Netflix to renew the beloved series!

Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Todd Grinnell, Stephen Toblowsky, Isabella Gomez, and Marcel Ruiz will all return for the 13 new episodes, set to debut in 2019.

A re-imagining of the iconic Norman Lear sitcom, One Day at a Time is a hilarious and heartfelt comedy that follows three generations of a Cuban-American family sometimes-reluctantly co-habitating and navigating the ups and downs of life.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who wrote about our show everyone who watched it over and over again and all of you beautiful people!!!! Thank you #dale,” Justina tweeted after the news was announced.
