Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman perfect the prom pose at the Doctor Who Premiere Fan Screening event held at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on Thursday night (August 14).

The two stars of the hit BBC show were joined by show runner Steven Moffatt.

“I loved what Matt [Smith] did with it, but I think anybody who came into the role after him would have to contrast that,” Peter, 56, dished to The Telegraph about his regeneration. “So the most obvious contrast to Matt was to make [Doctor Who] more distant, more spiky.”

He added, “But the Doctor I play is actually very passionate, very enthusiastic … because he gets to roam around time and space and see all these wonderful, wonderful things. He’s quite tough – and he has scars, he bears the scars of his past. I mean, he’s a fabulous character, but I wouldn’t want people to get the wrong idea, to think he’s grim. He’s not grim, he’s actually joyous and joyful and funny and sarcastic and witty.”

Peter Capaldi stands tall beside the TARDIS with Jenna Coleman during the Doctor Who World Tour held at Dendy Opera Quays on Tuesday afternoon (August 12) in Sydney, Australia.

“The very first thing I had to do was to get into that Tardis, and I’m thinking, ‘oh my god, this is the actual Tardis,’ except of course it’s not bigger on the inside; it’s actually smaller,” the 56-year-old Scottish actor joked with press at the event.

Peter Capaldi poses with co-star Jenna Coleman during the premiere event of Doctor Who held at St. David’s Hall on Thursday afternoon (August 7) in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.

The 56-year-old Scottish actor and Jenna, 26, were joined by show runner Steven Moffatt later in London for a Q&A session at BFI Southbank.

“He’s a brand new, slightly shocking, extremely funny, charismatic doctor, and it’s that wonderful thing – he’s very, very different and yet he’s exactly the same,” Steven shared about Peter‘s Doctor. “That’s is the thing about the doctor, the doctor is always kind of the same, but you couldn’t have a bigger contrast to the Matt Smith version.”

Peter Capaldi gets into character as The Doctor in this newly released photo from his first full day on set of Doctor Who on Tuesday (January 7) in Cardiff, England.

The 55-year-old actor was joined by his co-star Jenna Coleman as production began on the upcoming eighth season of the hit BBC show.

“New job, first day, slightly nervous,” Peter told BBC News. “Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”

Last month, an average of 8.3 million people tuned in to watch Matt Smith‘s final bow as The Doctor.

Tom Hiddleston leaves the Donmar Warehouse after performing his play Coriolanus to sign autographs for his fans on Thursday evening (December 12) in London, England.

The 32-year-old actor was joined outside the theater by Doctor Who‘s Peter Capaldi.

Recently, Tom, along with Ewan McGregor, Michael Sheen, Emma Bunton, Rita Ora and Tinie Tempah, filmed a short PSA in support of the Syria Winter Appeal for the children of Syria in partnership with UNICEF.

Nicole Kidman continues to don her short blonde haired wig while filming for her upcoming movie Paddington on Tuesday (November 12) in London, England.

The 46-year-old actress was reportedly joined on the set that day by her co-star Peter Capaldi.
