There were so many stars in attendance at the 2024 AFI Awards Luncheon, celebrating the best movies and television shows of 2023.

The casts of Barbie, The Last of Us, and more were all there to honor their projects on Friday afternoon (January 12) at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The AFI Awards honorees include 10 outstanding motion pictures and 10 outstanding TV programs deemed culturally and artistically representative of this year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image.

Stars like Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, and many more all attended the event this year.

“As our nation and our world continue to navigate difficult times, AFI is honored to shine a proper light upon these works of art that lift us up and, ultimately, lead us to empathy,” said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO. “That we do so without competition is AFI’s hallmark, and we are proud to gather this community of artists together – as one – to celebrate their extraordinary contributions to our time.”

There are some celebs who take a profit participation deal instead of a bigger salary, which in the end could give them a much larger payday.

One star who is known for his massive paydays is Marvel actor Robert Downey Jr., who appears on this list six times thanks to his huge profit participation deals for his various appearances as Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Margot Robbie‘s massive salary for Barbie, including bonuses, has been added to the list.

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey are present at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards!

The couple walked the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 7) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Robert donned a burgundy suit, and Susan wore a sparkly red dress.

If you haven’t heard, Robert just won the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for his performance as Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer.

It’s the third Golden Globe win of Robert‘s career!

The Golden Globes will air on CBS this year, marking a change in network after many years on NBC. The show is being hosted by comedian Jo Koy. Make sure to check out the full list of nominations!

Robert Downey Jr. spilled some tea on the tattoo he shares with the other founding members of the Avengers.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is massive now. However, at the start it centered around his Iron Man, Chris Evans‘ Captain America, Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk and Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor.

If you were unaware, five of the six members of the core cast decided to get a group tattoo after the release of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. The movie was one of the final ones that they all appeared in together, and the tattoo commemorates their bond.

During a segment on Wired, Robert opened up about the tattoo, revealing some additional details. For instance, he confirmed which member of the cast opted out of getting inked and which was seemingly hesitant. He even revealed who was brave enough to go first.

We challenge you to find anyone who was having more fun together at the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards than Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.

The Oppenheimer co-stars had some playful moments on the red carpet at the event on Thursday (January 4) at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, Calif.

Cillian won the award for Desert Palm Achievement, Actor and Robert was there to present the award to him.

While presenting the award, Robert said, “He is an anomaly. He’s been an actor’s actor for over 20 years and nobody dislikes this guy. That’s not easy. His character work and his onscreen intensity never fail. Captain captivating, it’s f–king titillating.”

Robert added, “I’ve been in this game for 40 something years and I’ve never had the experience like watching Cillian carry the weight of J. Robert on his back for the whole time with his heart on his sleeve and all the required sophistication and restraint.”
