Adnan Syed, the subject of the hit 2014 podcast Serial, was released from prison last September after 23 years, but now his murder conviction has been reinstated.

Adnan was convicted for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, but he maintained his innocence over the years and the Serial podcast raised speculation about his guilt. The conviction was overturned by Baltimore Circuit Judge Melissa Phinn after prosecutors raised doubts about the ruling after it was revealed there were alternative suspects.

Now, the conviction has been reinstated and fans are probably wondering if he’s going back to prison or not.

'Serial' Subject Adnan Syed Granted a Retrial in Murder Case

Adnan Syed, the man who is the subject of the hit podcast Serial‘s first season, has been granted a retrial in his murder case.

The 35-year-old man was convicted for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, but he has maintained his innocence over the years and the podcast raised speculation about his guilt.

Syed‘s lawyer, C. Justin Brown, argued in February’s post-conviction hearings that his original defense team was grossly negligent and new evidence was presented, according to the New York Times.

“WE WON A NEW TRIAL FOR ADNAN SYED!!! #FreeAdnan,” the lawyer tweeted on Thursday (June 30).

'Serial' Podcast Being Made Into a Television Show!

The fan-favorite podcast Serial is now being made into a television series!

Sarah Koenig‘s smash hit podcast is being developed for Fox 21 Television Studios with the This American Life team set to executive produce.

The series will not follow the story of involving the murder of Hae Min Lee and the Adnan Syed case, but rather, will show a behind-the-scenes look at Sarah‘s rise to creating one of the most popular podcasts of the 2014, Vulture reports.

The second season of Serial will follow Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who went missing while in Afghanistan and was captured by the Taliban.

Popular 'Serial' Podcast Will Be Back for Season 2 This Fall!

Good news, Serial fans – it’s coming back, and soon!

The popular podcast is set to return for a second season later this year according to an email sent to subscribers.

“We are hard at work reporting not one, but two distinct new stories,” the email reads (via Deadline). “As it stands, we intend to launch Season Two this fall and Season Three next spring. Sorry – we can’t tell you details about the new stories yet. What we can say is that they’re very different from Season One, but no less interesting to us.”

In case you don’t know, the first season was narrated by Sarah Koenig and covered the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and the subsequent legal case of her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed, who is currently serving a life sentence.

'Serial' Subject Adnan Syed Will Be Subject of New Podcast

Serial, the hit podcast which followed the 1999 death of Hae Min Lee, a Maryland teenager and the conviction of her ex Adnan Syed, is returning for another chapter.

On Monday, lawyers and advocates of Adnan will release “Undisclosed: The State v. Adnan Syed,” which will “examine and explore the case in greater detail, from an investigatory perspective instead of a narrative one,” the New York Times reports.

New episodes of Undisclosed are set to be released every two weeks.
