Kerry Washington is back on Broadway after an absence of nearly a decade and she picked an important play for her return.

The Emmy-nominated actress is starring in the new play American Son, which will have its official opening night this Sunday. In new photos that were just released, Kerry, who is also a producer on the project, is pictured alongside co-stars Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan, and Eugene Lee.

In a recent interview, Kerry discussed what makes the show so special.

“It’s definitely for me one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever taken on as an actor,” Kerry said on The Today Show this week. “It’s very special to me. It’s a really beautiful play about parenting and about love and about identity and race. I feel like the luckiest woman in the world that I get to do it eight times a week and also it’s really hard.”

The show is running now through January 27 and tickets are available right now on Telecharge.

The Emmy-nominated actress was joined at the event by Steven Pasquale, her co-star from the upcoming Broadway play American Son.

This will be Kerry‘s second time on Broadway. She previously starred in the play Race in 2009-2010.

Audience Rewards is a program that Broadway audiences can use to earn points for theatre tickets that they purchase and then redeem the points for memorabilia, experiences, and even more tickets.

The 41-year-old actress stepped out at a photo call for her upcoming play American Son on Friday (September 14) at the New 42nd Street Studios in New York City.

Kerry was also joined by her co-stars Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan and Eugene Lee.

American Son follows a separated, interracial couple that reunite n a Florida Police station to grapple with the disappearance of their teenage son.

The show is set begin performances at the Booth Theatre October 6th.

Kerry Washington will be making her return to Broadway in the new play American Son alongside theater veteran Steven Pasquale!

The show will be directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon and it is written by Christopher Demos-Brown.

Here is the synopsis: Do you know where your children are? A Florida police station in the middle of the night; a mother searching for her missing teenage son. American Son is a gripping tale of two parents caught in our national divide, with their worst fears hanging in the balance.

“Christopher Demos-Brown has written a play that dives deep into the big questions of who we are as a nation, by exploring the intimate relationships within a family caught at the crossroads of love, loss, identity and community,” Kerry said in a statement. “After reading the script I was immediately enthralled by the world of the play and the gripping circumstances that these characters are facing. I am excited to step into the ring with Kenny & Steve to tell this story on Broadway.”

The play will begin performances on October 6 at the Booth Theatre in New York City. The official opening night is November 4.

Kerry made her Broadway debut in 2009 in the play Race. Steven has appeared in such shows as The Bridges of Madison County and Junk.

The National Theatre revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia includes Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield. The limited 18-week Broadway engagement officially kicked off on Sunday (March 25).

Broadway stars Steven Pasquale and Phillipa Soo have tied the knot!

The 40-year-old actor and the 27-year-old actress got married on Sunday (September 24) in New York City.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson shared a photo of the newly married couple on his Instagram account and captioned it with a line from Hamilton, a show that earned Phillipa a Tony nomination.

“A TOAST TO THE GROOM, TO THE BRIDE! congrats to our beautiful friends @phillipasoo & @stevepasquale. welcome to the married club! �’� #onabicyclebuiltforsoo,” Jesse captioned the photo.

Also pictured in the photo are Jesse‘s husband Justin Mikita and his 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee co-star Celia Keenan-Bolger.

Phillipa Soo is sandwiched in between her Hamilton co-stars Jasmine Cephas Jones and Renee Elise Goldsberry while attending the 2016 Elly Awards on Monday (June 20) at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The ladies play the Schuyler sisters in Broadway’s smash hit musical, which is sold out through next summer.

Phillipa, who was joined at the event by her fiance Steven Pasquale, was honored at the event for being an outstanding woman leader.

After leaving Hamilton on July 9, Phillipa will start work on the upcoming musical version of the movie Amelie. It arrives on Broadway next year, but will have a production in Los Angeles in December.
