Lea Michele Dedicates Teen Choice Award to Cory Monteith (Video)

Lea Michele steps out on stage at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards to accept the award for Choice TV Actress: Comedy on Sunday (August 11) at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.

This was the first public appearance for the 26-year-old Glee actress since the death of her boyfriend Cory Monteith.

“Thank you guys. Thank you. I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much your love and support has meant to me over these very past few difficult weeks,” Lea said.

“Not that I had any doubt before, but you guys are most certainly the greatest fans in the world and I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory,” she added. “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world. We were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts and that’s where he will stay forever. So thank you guys so much. Thank you.”

FYI: Lea is wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress and a Tiffany & Co. Atlas bangle.

And all the buzz last week was about “Robsten” reuniting, and possibly at TCAs. Also the talk was about which ex-couple will have the most awkward run-in. That’s a joke compared to this. Lea’s face showed what true love is about, with all its hardships and sweet times. It’s not some ridiculous fantasy cooked up in books and films that’s expected to be played out in real life by its fans. It’s not who fired off the most nasty message on Twitter to get back at them. It’s not PR dating to pay attention to projects. It’s not about who’s a serial dater. We’ll go back to opining about celeb love lives, especially when they decide to spill it out in public, but this moment makes you stop and think what’s really important.

  • Natalie

So proud of her. She has a beautiful heart and she is so strong. We will NEVER forget Cory. He would be so proud of her right now.

Dedicating an award to a drug addict that OD, nice! No wonder the kids of today are soo messed up.

  • Joy B Angie

He was a loser, he had chances to clean up his drug habits, how long was he out of rehab, before returning to his old habits.
His love was not strong enough to overcome his weakness,
I not being harsh, just being honest, all this sugar coating BS.

  • Brittany

@Jamie Yearout: I really didn’t mean that as an insult. Sorry for your loss.

  • maria

I don’t like Lea, but I have to respect her strength in that moment. Cory’s demons were too strong for her, but you can see how much she loved him and will cherish their memories together.

Lea’s whole attitude and grace through this ordeal makes Cory’s death cause seem more forgivable if not tragic to some people. He should be thanking her up from the heavens. She’s one strong woman.

    @Jane and Joy Be Angie:

Learn some compassion. Both of you will be a lot better off and people will listen to what you have to say when you have compassion. No one is rewarding Cory for being a drug addict, and even though he died of an overdose he still accomplished more in his life and spread more love than so many people who never make the mistake he made in using drugs and live decades longer.
