Benedict Cumberbatch Honored By Queen Elizabeth II

Benedict Cumberbatch proudly displays his medal of honor while at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon (November 10) in London, England.

The 39-year-old Sherlock actor was joined by his wife Sophie Hunter as he accepted the Commander of the Order of the British Empire award for his services to the performing arts and to charity.

“It’s fantastic, it’s quite nerve-wracking, there is nothing really that prepares you for it,” Benedict said of the honor. “It’s a unique occasion and I feel very privileged to be here and flattered to be recognized in this way.”

This was also the first time that Benedict had met the Queen of England.

He added, “It was wonderful, it was the first time I’ve ever met her and to meet her and be honored by her was extraordinary.”
