Instagram Will Be Renamed by Facebook

Facebook is making it known that they own Instagram.

The social media company founded by Mark Zuckerberg will be renaming both Instagram and WhatsApp to “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook.”, according to The Information.

Facebook spokesperson Bertie Thomson confirmed the reports to the site saying, “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”

Facebook already added “from Facebook” to Oculus, the VR company they acquired in 2014.

The new app names will appear in the Apple App Store and Google Play, but the “from Facebook” addition will not appear on users home screens, for now at least. It’s possible the new name will be show in other locations, including with users log in.

Facebook hasn’t announced when the new names will go into effect.
