Moderna's Coronavirus Vaccine Approved By FDA For Emergency Use

The FDA has given the all clear for Moderna to start using their own COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.

The approval is for persons 18 and and over, and the vaccine is said to be 94% effective. The first shipment will head to hospitals and nursing homes starting next week.

“It was one of the greatest moments in my life and my career. It is absolutely amazing to be able to develop this vaccine and see the ability to prevent symptomatic disease with such high efficacy,” Dr. Tal Zacks, Moderna’s chief medical officer, shared as the trials were concluding last month.

Just a few days after the trials wrapped up, it was revealed that Dolly Parton donated nearly $1 million dollars to fund them.

After tracking some 30,000 volunteers, Moderna estimated it as 94% effective in preventing COVID-19 illness with few serious side effects.

The FDA’s approval of Moderna‘s vaccine follows Pfizer‘s, which was shipped out to hospitals at the beginning of the week.

Pfizer's Coronavirus Vaccine Has Been Approved By The FDA

The Food and Drug Administration just made the announcement that they have approved Pfizer‘s COVID-19 vaccine.

Variety reports that the FDA approved the drug after a government panel recommended Thursday that it receive approval from them.

The advisory panel found that Pfizer’s shot appears to be safe and effective against COVID-19 in people 16 and older.

The approval on Friday (December 11) will make way for Americans to begin getting the vaccine, which was kick started in other countries, like England, earlier this month.

The vaccine has a 95% effectiveness rate. About 2.9 million doses are due to be shipped around the United States in the next week, with nursing home residents and health care workers among the first to get the shot.

BioNTech, the company that owns the vaccine, said it has signed deals to supply 570 million doses worldwide in 2021, with options to deliver 600 million more. It hopes to provide at least 1.3 billion in 2021.

Pfizer Reveals Their Coronavirus Vaccine Is 95% Effective After Completing Third Study Trial

A new report from Pfizer has come out of their coronavirus vaccine trials about the success rate of the vaccine they have been developing to help eradicate the pandemic.

The company has submitted a request to the Food and Drug Administration for emergency approval, as data for their vaccine has proven 95 percent effective.

Just a few weeks earlier, the company, along with collaborator BioNTech, announced that preliminary results from trials showed its potential vaccine was at least 90 percent effective.

Now, after completing a phase three study, the vaccine has proven to be 95 percent effective with “no serious safety concerns observed” in the trial participants.

“Our work to deliver a safe and effective vaccine has never been more urgent, as we continue to see an alarming rise in the number of cases of COVID-19 globally,” Dr. Albert Bourla, Pfizer chairman and CEO, said in a news release. “Filing in the U.S. represents a critical milestone in our journey to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine to the world and we now have a more complete picture of both the efficacy and safety profile of our vaccine, giving us confidence in its potential.”

The trials, Pfizer noted, have been “consistent across age, gender, race and ethnicity demographics” and “the observed efficacy in adults over 65 years of age was over 94 percent.”

“That’s great, but we have to get people to take the vaccine,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been at the forefront of the fight against the virus in the United States, recently shared with press about the trials.

He also spoke about just when things could possibly be back to “normal”. Here’s what he said here…

Pfizer isn’t the only company to have had success with a vaccine for coronavirus. Moderna also reported a 95% success rate in early studies for their own vaccine.
