Derek Hough Says He Was 'Shocked' About Tom Bergeron Being Fired From 'Dancing With The Stars'

Derek Hough is opening up about how he reacted upon hearing the news that Tom Bergeron would no longer be hosting Dancing With The Stars when it returns for its 29th season.

“My initial reaction, I guess I was pretty shocked,” the 35-year-old entertainer and former pro dancer on the show shared with SiriusXM’s Bevelations. “Tom Bergeron is such a staple on Dancing With the Stars and he’s a good friend of mine. He’s just a good man.”

Derek continued, “He’s been there since the beginning. He’s just a great guy, [but] you also understand that in the entertainment industry nothing is certain. There’s always those efforts to reinvigorate and switch things up, so you look at that and it’s also understandable.”

He went on, commenting on the news that Tyra Banks was taking over the role of host from Tom and also Erin Andrews.

“You know, Tyra Banks, I’ve come in contact with her several times and I think she’s fantastic,” he shared. “I thought she was a fantastic host on America’s Got Talent. I thought she did an amazing job.”

Derek is the pro with the most wins from the show, with a total of six mirrored ball trophies. His most recent win was with Bindi Irwin in season 21. He left the show after season 23.

More information about when the season will start production was just revealed, too.

Sean Spicer Reacts to Tom Bergeron's 'DWTS' Comments

Sean Spicer has something to say to Tom Bergeron following his seeming shade regarding Sean‘s Dancing with the Stars casting.

The 64-year-old host appeared to call out ABC over the 47-year-old former White House Press Secretary’s casting choice as a contestant in the new season.

Sean stepped out on Wednesday (August 21) in New York, when he was asked about Tom‘s comments.

Tom’s been a great host to this show for 28 seasons,” Sean told The Blast. “This show is a great opportunity to be an example, how we can have better dialogue and respectfully learn from each other.”

“I would hope by the end of the show Tom looks at this as more of an opportunity to help reach the divide that exists right now,” Sean added.

When asked why he believed Tom Bergeron made the remarks, Sean Spicer answered, “I think you got to ask Tom. Right now … you have to look for ways to come together … give people an opportunity to watch some good TV and watch people interact with a diverse background.”

DWTS' Tom Bergeron Seemingly Calls Out ABC Over Sean Spicer Casting

Tom Bergeron is seemingly not happy about Dancing with the Stars‘ choice to cast Sean Spicer, Donald Trump‘s former White House press secretary.

While not directly naming Spicer by name, Tom released a statement that speaks about “party affiliations” and the “exhausting political climate.”

“A few months ago, during a lunch with DWTS‘ new Executive Producer, I offered suggestions for Season 28. Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its returning following an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations. I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement. Subsequently (and rather obviously), a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction.’ It is the prerogative of the producers, in partnership with the network, to make whatever decisions they feel are in the best long term interests of the franchise. We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it’s their call. I’ll let it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions,” Tom posted in a statement.

Witney Carson Responds to Tom Bergeron's Controversial Comment on 'DWTS'

Witney Carson is speaking out about the bizarre and controversial comment that Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron made about her on Monday night’s show.

While judge Carrie Ann Inaba was speaking about Witney‘s performance with Frankie Muniz, she commented that Frankie “almost lost control of Witney.”

Tom replied by saying, “I’m guessing he’s not the first guy who’s lost control of Witney.”

People on social media, as well as in the audience at the taping, were not thrilled with the comment.

“I think it was just Make Witney Uncomfortable Day,” Frankie told reporters according to EW.

“Yeah, I guess,” Witney affirmed. “I don’t know, you guys. I didn’t really get it at first because I was like, I don’t really get what that means, but yeah, thanks. Thanks for whatever that was.”

“But I’m just going to brush it off,” she continued, “and I hope you guys do too.”
