Disney Unveils Six 'Mulan' Character Posters Featuring Yifei Liu & More!

The live-action remake of Disney’s Mulan will be hitting theaters in two months and the studio just unveiled six character posters for the movie!

Featured on the posters are Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li as Xianniang, and Jet Li as the Emperor.

Here is the film’s synopsis: When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.

While the movie will not be a musical, the latest trailer for the film does feature the song “Reflection” built into the score. We hope we have more moments like that throughout the movie!

'Mulan' Star Yifei Liu Skips D23 Amid Hong Kong Controversy

Yifei Liu, the newcomer who is playing the title role in Disney’s live-action Mulan movie, was absent from the D23 expo amid the controversy in Hong Kong.

The 31-year-old actress was expected to make an appearance at the event, but she likely decided not to attend after fans launched a boycott against the movie due to her support for the police in Hong Kong.

There have been police brutality protests happening in the area for weeks and people are very upset that she showed support for that side of the fight.

The film’s director Niki Caro appeared on stage and debuted several minutes of footage from the highly anticipated project, which will hit theaters on March 27, 2020.

In Disney’s Mulan, the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders. Mulan's Yifei Liu Voices Support for Hong Kong Police, Protesters Launch Boycott of Movie

People have launched a protest against the upcoming Disney movie Mulan after the film’s star Yifei Liu (also known as Crystal Liu) voiced her support for the police in Hong Kong.

There have been anti-police brutality protests going on in Hong Kong and now people believe that she supports police brutality.

Liu, who has 65 million followers on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, retweeted an image shared by the Communist Party’s page People’s Daily. The post said “I support the Hong Kong police; you can beat me up now” in Chinese and in English it added, “What a shame for Hong Kong.”

She also added the hashtag “IAlsoSupportTheHongKongPolice” to her post, along with a heart emoji.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all blocked in China, but #BoycottMulan has trended on social media around the world. See one of the viral tweets below.

Disney's Live-Action 'Mulan' Trailer Is Debuting Tomorrow!

The trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic Mulan is debuting this weekend!

Yifei Liu is playing the title character in the new version of the Disney movie, which doesn’t hit theaters until March 2020.

The trailer will debut on Sunday morning (July 7) during Fox’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup finals.

Jimmy Wong, who is playing Ling, teased the news earlier this week. He tweeted, “If you are excited about Mulan, you MIGHT want to start tuning into the World Cup coverage starting today. You might see something. Just maybe.”

Now, it has been confirmed that the trailer will debut during the game!

Production has begun on the upcoming live-action version of the Disney movie Mulan and the studio has shared the first photo of actress Liu Yifei in costume as the title character.

The film will be shooting on location in New Zealand and China.

Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.

Among the other stars in the film are Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jet Li as the emperor of China, and Gong Li as a villainous witch.

Mulan, directed by Niki Caro, will be released on March 27, 2020.
