Queen Elizabeth Underwent Cataract Surgery Last Month

The reason why Queen Elizabeth has been wearing sunglasses so much lately has finally be revealed.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Friday (June 8) that the 92-year-old monarch underwent cataract surgery back in May.

“I can confirm that The Queen successfully underwent a short, planned procedure to treat a cataract last month,” a palace spokesperson said.

Cataract surgery is performed to treat the cataracts which can cause blurry vision and increase the glare from lights.

After surgery, colors may seem brighter because the patient is now looking through a new, clearer lens – explaining why the Queen has been sporting shades a lot more frequent.

The recent surgery hasn’t slowed down the Queen at all. She attended several parties at Buckingham Palace while also attending grandson Prince Harry‘s wedding to Meghan Markle last month.
