James Corden Gets Emotional on Late Late Show's 5th Anniversary, Re-Airs First Episode With Tom Hanks (Video)

James Corden is ringing in The Late Late Show‘s fifth anniversary while self-quarantined at home.

The 41-year-old host – whose show, like others, is shut down amid the current health crisis – shared an emotional tribute while social distancing on Monday (March 23).

“We had so many big plans for tonight, for the show we were going to give you,” James said. “When I think back to [our first episode], I’m filled with nerves and excitement and a feeling of when that curtain opened and I walked out for the first time, I didn’t know if I was going to fall flat on my face or if this was all going to be OK.”

CBS then re-ran his very first episode from 2015, featuring actor Tom Hanks (who is currently recovering from the coronavirus with his wife Rita Wilson).

“This is the strangest, strangest time,” James Corden added. “All we’ve ever wanted to do on our show is bring you some light in the dark in the corner of your room every night, and we’re going to do our best at some point to continue trying to do that.”
