During their visit, the Cambridges spoke to staff and volunteers who have worked to ensure that the hospital was able to cope with the pandemic, including medical staff, catering and operational staff, and those who have returned to work from retirement to support the COVID-19 effort.
Kate and William were also given a pair of NHS Knitted Angels, which are tiny dolls representing NHS staff, including nurses, paramedics and other key workers – in uniform with added angel wings.
The project started as a Christmas project, with local groups knitting angels and sending them to hospitals with a prayer tag attached to spread festive cheer among the wards.
Ahead of the weekend, William stopped by a local pub ahead of businesses opening after lockdown and talked to owners about how their small businesses coped during the pandemic.
