Anthony Hopkins Joins 'The Son' After Winning Oscar For 'The Father'

Just after winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Father, Anthony Hopkins has signed on to star in the movie’s follow-up, The Son.

It’s unclear if the 83-year-old actor will reprise his role as Anthony in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Anthony will star with Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern and Vanessa Kirby, as well as Zen McGrath, who was cast in the titular role.

“After our journey on The Father, I couldn’t make another film without Anthony,” Florian Zeller told THR in a statement. “He was the first one to read The Son‘s script, as one of its characters was written especially for him. Having him by our side to tell this new story has been an honor, a profound joy and very emotional.”

The Son, which has just wrapped production in London, follows Peter (Jackman) and his new partner, Beth (Kirby), whose life with their new baby is thrown into disarray when his ex-wife, Kate (Dern), turns up with their teenage son, Nicholas (McGrath).

Here’s how Anthony celebrated his Oscar win earlier this year.
