Susan Sarandon's New Show 'Monarch' Premiere Gets Pushed Back Amid COVID-19 Surge

The premiere of Susan Sarandon‘s new show Monarch has been pushed back.

Fox announced on Wednesday (January 13) that they were delaying the release of the new musical drama amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A Fox network spokesperson shared with EW that they are delaying Monarch‘s release because of “the unavoidable realities of the pandemic and the profound impact COVID-19 continues to have on our industry and around the world.”

Monarch was originally supposed to premiere on Sunday, January 30, but will now premiere in Fall 2022.

“We believe this necessary decision sets a show of this magnitude up for success and gives it the best possible runway leading up to its launch, allowing the cast and crew the proper time to do their best work and produce a season we can air in full in the fall,” the spokesperson continued. “As the cornerstone of Fox’s new 2022-23 slate, shifting a show of this magnitude allows us to have its entire first season produced, create additional, high-profile content and promotional windows to support launch, and give our viewers the best opportunity to enjoy the series as intended with a non-compromised run of episodes.”

Monarch “tells the story of a (fictional) country music dynasty and the secrets buried just beneath their much-beloved surface.” Susan stars in the show alongside Beth Ditto, Anna Friel, and Trace Adkins. Susan‘s daughter Eva Amurri also appears in the show as the younger version of her character, “Queen of Country” Dottie Cantrell Roman.

Fox’s decision to delay Monarch‘s premiere comes after production on several other TV shows were recently halted due to the pandemic.
