Here's Why Bruce Willis's 1980s Series 'Moonlighting' Isn't Available To Stream Anywhere

It’s been just a few weeks since Bruce Willis‘s family revealed that he’d be stepping back and retiring from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia.

Following the news, fans flocked to social media to share their favorite projects from him and Moonlighting was definitely one of the biggest favorites.

However, you won’t find the 1980s series streaming anywhere, and there’s a reason why.

According to The Wrap, the big reason why Moonlighting isn’t available anywhere – not on streaming, or on Bluray or DVD – is because of the music!

Series creator Glenn Gordon Caron shared that the reason was definitely the music over anything else.

According to him, he actually made contact with Disney, which owns the show, about putting the series on Disney+, however, he was told that “we don’t see Disney+ that way.”

“Now, of course, in its maturity, they realize you need to be able to program for many different age strata,” Glenn shared, referencing that the streaming network’s priorities have changed about the ratings reason.

He added that now, the reason he was given was that the “big problem we have is, the show is just larded with music. None of those rights have been sewn up, and we believe it would be cost prohibitive to go get them now.”

“The last conversation that I had with them, which I’m guessing was probably about two years ago, the music was really the financial reason,” Glenn said. “But I think the economics have obviously changed in the last two years in terms of what streaming’s become.”

Glenn gets it too, because Moonlighting featured music from all over, and wasn’t concentrated into just one genre.

“We licensed stuff from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, and also broke new music,” he shared. “We were sort of all over the map, and actually sometimes used to philharmonic music – ‘The William Tell Overture’ or whatever worked the best.”

The series, which also starred Cybill Shepherd, also had a very famous theme song, performed and co-written by Al Jarreau.

Right not, Glenn is still hoping for a run on Disney+.

“I’m represented by WME, and I have terrific lawyers, and I’m constantly banging on them and saying, ‘Is there anything we can do?’” he says. “It’s a question, also, of timing and all their thing. Now, obviously with all the press that Bruce and the unfortunate situation he’s in has gotten, suddenly there’s a real interest. People really want to see the work. That, too, has become part of the conversation.”

Just recently, Bruce was seen out for the first time since his diagnosis.
