Missy is stepping back from the FBI series as she is expecting her second child with husband Tom Oakley.

During the episode, Maggie ended up in the hospital after getting trapped in a room where deadly sarin gas had been released. While she did not die, she has to remain in the hospital and away from the job for her recovery.

This will be Missy‘s second leave of absence from the show, as she did the same when she was expecting her first child during season two. For that temporary leave, Maggie was on an undercover mission.

“Basically, I told her, ‘Tell us what you want what you need, and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.’ She was feeling great and wanting to work for as long as she could,” showrunner Rick Eid told Variety. “We had a general idea when she was going to leave, and so there was just a question of finding the right episode to pair with that and the right plot to pair with that. I think the sarin gas idea seemed to be a exciting, thrilling way to send her off.”

He adds, “We just wanted to find a way to credibly send her off within the imaginary worlds we’re living in, and make it so that she can come back when she’s physically ready to come back.”
