Alec Baldwin's Lawyer Speaks Out After Santa Fe DA Obtains Funding For 'Rust' Prosecution

The Santa Fe District Attorney has secured partial funding for 4 potential prosecutions over Rust.

If you recall, director of photography Halyna Hutchins was tragically killed after an incident on the set of the movie, where real ammunition was used in a gun that was discharged by star and producer Alec Baldwin in October of 2021.

According to Deadline, the Santa Fe DA has been granted $317,750 for a potential prosecution of as many as four individuals connected to the case.

Alec was mentioned by named in one of the potential defendants in an August 30 letter that DA Mary Carmack-Altwies sent to New Mexico’s Board of Finance. She originally requested $635,500 in additional funds.

Now, Alec‘s lawyer has provided a statement on the situation.

Attorney Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel shared that “during my communications with the DA’s office just a few weeks ago, after the August 30 funding request was submitted, I was told that it would be premature to discuss the case because they had not yet reviewed the file or deliberated about their charging decision.”

He went on, “It is irresponsible to report otherwise. The DA has made clear that she has not received the sheriff’s report or made any decisions about who, if anyone, might be charged in this case.”

Mr. Nikas then added that “The DA’s office must be given the space to review this matter without unfounded speculation and innuendo.”

Just 10 days before the letter was sent, Alec was discussing the shooting in an interview.

If you missed it, Alec and his wife, Hilaria, also just welcomed their seventh child together.
