John Stamos Defends Lori Loughlin Following College Admissions Scandal

John Stamos is defending his longtime friend Lori Loughlin.

During a new interview, the 59-year-old actor addressed the 58-year-old actress going to jail for her part in the college admissions scandal, insisting that Lori “didn’t know what was going on.”

“I am going to say this, and she said I could,” John told Armchair Expert host Dax Shepard. ”She wasn’t really the architect of any of it—she was in the way background.” 

Following the scandal, John said Lori “paid a lot of money. She set up a college fund for kids and she went to f–king jail man.”

In May 2020, Lori and husband Mossimo Giannulli both pleaded guilty in the college admissions scandal after they were charged for paying $500,000 in bribes to ensure that their daughters were admitted to the University of Southern California.

Lori was sentenced to two months in jail, a $150,000 fine and 150 hours of community service, while Mossimo served five months, a $250,000 fine and 250 hours of community service.

John also expressed his uncertainty in how to publicly address Lori‘s situation.

“If you defend her then people get mad,” John explained. “If you don’t defend her, then you feel bad because she’s a great person.”

Before Lori was sentenced, John said that he wouldn’t comment on the scandal until after the trial, but he did say, “I’m pretty sure that the punishment is not equal to the crime, if there was a crime.”
