Paul Rudd Reveals His Secret for Getting in Fighting Form for 'Ant-Man,' Spills on His Diet & Workouts

Paul Rudd opened up about getting into shape before suiting up to save the day as Ant-Man in the newest release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The 53-year-old is gearing up to play the tiniest hero in the MCU in his third solo movie since 2015 – Ant-Man & the Wasp Quantumania.

During a recent interview he shared the secret to his youthful and fit appearance. He also got real about the challenges he faced ahead of the upcoming blockbuster.

Paul‘s biggest fitness secret sounds so simple: “Sleep,” he told Men’s Health. Of course, that’s not all it took him to keep in fighting form. “Then diet. Then weights. Then cardio.”

He explained why sleep is so essential.

“The most important part of training is sleep. People will set their alarm and then sleep for four hours and they’ll get up so that they can train. They’re doing themselves a disservice,” he opined, saying that the goal should be eight hours a night.

If you really want to know what one of Paul Rudd‘s workouts are like, he did spill details. For him, his day starts with a cup of coffee.

“Then I do cardio before I eat anything. I never would’ve done that before [Ant-Man]. I lift weights, hopefully at least three times a week,” he continued, later sharing that “if you make fitness a part of your lifestyle, you’ll just feel good.”

In terms of his diet, Paul shared that essentials for him are eggs, salmon and protein shakes.

Even with his plan, Paul admitted that it was “so much harder than it was” to get ready for the latest outing as Scott Lang.

“I had fallen off more than I had in the past. All of a sudden my clothes fit tight. And I thought, God, this sucks,” he shared. “So I’d say to myself, Well, I might as well just eat some of these cookies. I was irritable and self-conscious. I just wasn’t in a good mood. I really beat myself up.”

To pull through, he set goals: “I can be a hyper-focused person if I have a goal. If I’m doing one of these movies and I know that in four months I have to do a shirtless scene, I’m pretty dialed in.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premieres on February 17, 2023.
