Marilyn‘s cause of death has been revealed as respiratory failure, which was not related to COVID-19.

Marilyn and Alan were a powerful couple in Hollywood, together winning three Oscars – two Best Original Song awards for “The Windmills of Your Mind” from The Thomas Crown Affair and “The Way We Were” from Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford‘s film of the same name, along with the Best Original Score award for Barbra‘s movie Yentl.

Shortly after news of Marilyn‘s death broke, Barbra took to Twitter to remember Marilyn.

“Marilyn and Alan Bergman were like family, as well as brilliant lyricists,” Barbra tweeted. “We met over 60 years ago backstage at a little night club, and never stopped loving each other and working together. Their songs are timeless, and so is our love. May she rest in peace. With love, Barbra.”

Marilyn and Alan were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame together in 1980.
