The 43-year-old actor took the stage with some of his Barbie co-stars on March 10 to perform the track from Greta Gerwig‘s movie.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday (April 11), Ryan explained why he originally turned down the opportunity.

Ryan Gosling‘s performance of “I’m Just Ken” was a highlight from the 2024 Oscars earlier this week. It was also an opportunity for many of the castmates to close the chapter on Barbie after a whirlwind year.
In a recent interview, Ken actor Simu Liu revealed that an injury almost stopped him from taking the stage with Ryan and their costars Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa and Scott Evans.

Michelle Yeoh is clearing up some confusion regarding her moment with Emma Stone after presenting the Best Lead Actress award at the 2024 Oscars.
Emma was officially crowned as Michelle‘s successor in the category on Sunday (March 10). The actress won for her role in Poor Things, which is her second ever victory in the category.
During Michelle‘s presentation of the award, several other former Best Actress winners were onstage. Instead of immediately passing the statuette over to Emma, Michelle handed it to Jennifer Lawrence so they could jointly give the award to its newest recipient.
Emma appeared a bit confused during the exchange before giving her acceptance speech and later sharing an embrace with Michelle.

Al Pacino is speaking out about his unconventional Best Picture announcement at the 2024 Oscars.
The 83-year-old actor sparked controversy when he presented the night’s biggest award without announcing all 10 nominees.
“Ten wonderful films were nominated, but only one will take the award for Best Picture—and I have to go to the envelope for that, and I will,” Al began, before declaring, “My eyes see Oppenheimer” to crown the Christopher Nolan-directed movie as the winner.
The crowd appeared confused, as hardly anyone applauded before music started playing to signify the winner being announced.
