It’s beginning to sound like we may never get to see American Crime Story: Katrina, the planned second season of the Ryan Murphy anthology series.

The season was supposed to air in the beginning of 2018 followed by the third season, focusing on the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Despite several of the key roles being cast months ago with Dennis Quaid, Annette Bening, and Matthew Broderick all attached to star, the show has not yet begun production. The Versace season instead will air in the beginning of 2018 and it is expected that Katrina will air later the year.

Now, director Anthony Hemingway, who worked on the first season of the anthology series and was slated to work on Katrina, says he’s not sure what will happen.

“That just kind of got stalled,” he told THR. “We’re all standing by waiting to find out what’s happening.”

“Nothing has really been done. We haven’t started prep on it at all,” he added. When asked if there is a chance the season won’t happen he said, “Who knows. It’s all up to Ryan Murphy.”

Last month, the cast of the new season of American Crime Story – including Penelope, Edgar, Darren Criss, and Ricky Martin – all posed in full costume for the first sneak peek of the upcoming season.

After getting their hair and makeup done earlier that day, Penelope took to Instagram to share a selfie with her on-screen brother.

The Hurricane Katrina-themed season of American Crime Story was expected to be the anthology series’ next season, but FX has announced that the installment has been pushed to late 2018.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace, starring Edgar Ramirez, Darren Criss, and Penelope Cruz, will now be the second season of the series.

The Versace season will air in early 2018 and the Katrina season, starring Annette Bening, Sarah Paulson, Matthew Broderick, and more, will air later that year.

Ryan Murphy is executive producing both seasons. The People v. O.J. Simpson, the first part of the anthology series, picked up nine Emmy Awards last year.

Darren Criss is all smiles as he takes a break in between scenes while filming Versace: American Crime Story on Wednesday afternoon (May 31) in Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old actor showed off his buff biceps in a sleeveless jacket and white tank as he was spotted on set.

Earlier that day, Darren was spotted wearing jeans and a blue shirt as he filmed a scene outside of his pickup truck.

The 43-year-old actress was spotted in a blonde wig and vintage sunglasses as she spent the weekend filming her highly-anticipated show The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

Penelope was spotted later that day wearing a sky-high heels and a black veil as she filmed a funeral scene on the beach.

The 45-year-old entertainer and actor was spotted making his way out of his trailer without his shirt as he got ready for a day of filming.

Ricky‘s massive arm and chest tattoos had been covered up with makeup as he got into character as Antonio D’Amico, the partner of the murder victim Gianni Versace at the time of his 1997 murder.

Earlier this week, Ricky had a total Baywatch moment as he showed off his buff bod in on the beach!

Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming series Katrina: American Crime Story has found its George W. Bush.

Dennis Quaid has been cast to play the former president in the Emmy-winning anthology, according to EW.

Bush was in office during the 2005 natural disaster that devastated the South.

The cast also includes Matthew Broderick as Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown, and Annette Bening as Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.

There are also rumors that Sarah Paulson may have a role too.

Katrina: American Crime Story will follow the second series, which is filming now about the death of designer Gianni Versace.
