Diahann Carroll Dead - Tony Award-Winning Actress Dies at 84

Diahann Carroll has sadly died.

The Tony Award-winning actress and first African-American woman to star in her own TV series died at the age of 84, her daughter Suzanne confirmed on Friday (October 4).

Diahann passed away after bravely battling with cancer.

She is perhaps best known for her role as Dominique Deveraux on Dynasty, and previously starred in 1968 sitcom Julia in the title role for three years. The show is considered to be a trailblazer for greater visibility for African American characters on TV series.

She won a Tony for her role in No Strings in the early 1960s. More recently, she received an Emmy nomination for a role on Grey’s Anatomy.
