Jeanna de Waal, the star of the new Broadway show Diana, The Musical, is speaking out to defend the project after it received negative reviews from critics.

The new musical celebrated its official opening night on Wednesday (November 17) and Jeanna looked stunning at the after party alongside co-stars Roe Hartrampf, Judy Kaye, and Erin Davie. See those photos in the gallery!

The new musical Diana is back on Broadway and the show had a “wild” first night back, according to a new report!

The show follows the life of the late Princess Diana and a filmed version of the musical debuted last month on Netflix, ahead of the show’s official opening on Broadway.

Diana: The Musical played a handful of preview performances in March 2020 before all of the shows on Broadway were shut down due to the pandemic. The musical returned to the Great White Way on Tuesday night (November 2) ahead of an official opening on November 17.

The upcoming Broadway show Diana: The Musical hasn’t even premiered yet, but it will soon be streaming on Netflix for anyone to watch at home!

The new musical was filmed on stage during the pandemic and the live recording will be released on Netflix on October 1, weeks before the show begins performances on Broadway.

Tony Award-winning director Christopher Ashley filmed the presentation at the Longacre Theatre in New York City last year without an audience.

The film features the original Broadway cast, led by Jeanna de Waal as Diana, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth.

Broadway performances begin on November 2 ahead of an official opening night on November 17. Watch the trailer below!

Diana, a Broadway musical about the life of Princess Diana, will premiere in 2020!

Following a sold-out world premiere run at the La Jolla Playhouse in California earlier this year, the musical will premiere on Broadway in March 2020.

Jeanna de Waal will reprise her role as Princess Diana while Roe Hartrampf will play Prince Charles, Erin Davie will play Camilla Parker Bowles, and Judy Kaye will play Queen Elizabeth.

Here is the show’s official synopsis: This is the story of the most famous woman of the modern age: Diana, Princess of Wales. Thrust into a spotlight brighter than any the world had ever known, Diana soon finds herself at odds with her husband, an unrelenting news media, and the monarchy itself. Leading fiercely with her heart, Princess Diana stands up for her family, her country and herself, while managing to capture the hearts of the world. She defied expectations, she rocked the royals and she created a legacy that will endure forever.

Diana will be directed by Come From Away‘s Christopher Ashley with music by Memphis‘ Joe DiPietro and David Bryan. The musical will begin previews on March 2 and the official opening night is March 31.
