The Normal Heart was the big winner in the Outstanding Television Movie category at the 2014 Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Monday (August 25) in Los Angeles.

The movie was nominated for nine awards at the show tonight, including acting honors for Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Joe Mantello, Alfred Molina, and Matt Bomer. Unfortunately none of the actors won in their categories.

Director and producer Ryan Murphy accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew.

The Normal Heart‘s Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons and Mark Ruffalo take the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

“I really believed in it,” Ryan Murphy, director of the HBO movie, told the mag. “[Writer] Larry [Kramer] set a very high price. I gulped and said, ‘Okay,’ and bought it. I think he wanted to see, ‘Is this kid serious?’ And I was.”

“It’s such a rich, important, cool part of American culture,” Mark said. “It’s as cool as the hippies; it’s as cool as the civil rights movement. It has its heroes. It has its f�”ing drama.”

Jonathan Groff and Matt Bomer star in the brand new trailer for their upcoming film The Normal Heart.

The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, and Julia Roberts and it will premiere on Sunday, May 25th at 9/8c on HBO.

The Normal Heart tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s, taking an unflinching look at the nation’s sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial.

The 35-year-old actor was joined on set that day by his co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Mark Ruffalo, who flashed a peace sign at onlookers. At one point in the day, Matt stopped to take pics with awaiting fans.

The Normal Heart, which also stars Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, and Jonathan Groff, is set to premiere as a television movie sometime next year.

The 32-year-old actor sported a new blonde look to play the role of Bruce Niles in the Ryan Murphy-directed TV movie about a gay activist who attempts to raise HIV/AIDS awareness during the early 1980s.

Also featured in the movie are Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons, and Jonathan Groff.
