She will play the villain Hespera, a daughter of Atlas, in the New Line and DC Films sequel to the 2019 adaptation of the comic book.

Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role of Shazam, with Rachel Zelger also part of the cast.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods “will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word ‘SHAZAM!’ is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego. Levi returns as the kid-at-heart superhero who is bestowed with the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. While Shazam is a formidable champion, Billy is still just a fun-loving kid trying to navigate high school while learning how to use his powers.”

Shazam is based on the DC character, and was the No. 1 film worldwide on its opening weekend in 2019.

'West Side Story' Star Rachel Zegler Joins 'Shazam 2' in Key Role

Rachel Zegler has landed a “key role” in the upcoming DC Comics movie Shazam: Fury of the Gods!

The 19-year-old actress is playing Maria in the upcoming movie remake of the musical West Side Story, which was supposed to be released in theaters this past December. The film was delayed by a full year due to the pandemic. (See the glam photos that she shared on the day the movie was set to hit theaters)

TheWrap reports that Rachel has joined the cast of the Shazam sequel, but details about her character are being kept under wraps right now.

“i am in my key role in shazam 2 era,” she tweeted after the news was announced.

Rachel is the second Colombian American actress to be cast in a DC superhero project after last week’s announcement that Sasha Calle will be playing Supergirl in The Flash.

Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role as Shazam in the upcoming movie with David F. Sandberg returning to direct.

Henry Cavill Will Not Appear in 'Shazam 2' as Superman

Sad news for DC Comics fans who were hoping to see Henry Cavill reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming movie Shazam 2… it’s not happening.

There have been rumors swirling that Henry would be appearing in the upcoming film Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but sources close to the project are denying this to Variety.

Superman makes a brief appearance in the first Shazam movie when the film’s title superhero, played by Zachary Levi, convinces Superman to come to Billy Batson’s high school to confront some bullies. In the scene, Superman is only seen from the neck down.

Shazam 2‘s director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to address the rumors, without going into too much detail.

“Not going to comment on casting rumors for several reasons. One being you can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened. Halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end,” he said. “Though I can confirm with ~90% certainty that Shazam will appear in Shazam 2. So if you’re a fan of that character you might enjoy Shazam 2.”

For 7 days, I will post never-shot feats from Shazam and ask you to donate — any amount helps! — to the true heroes out there making change happen in real time,” Henry wrote on Twitter. He later revealed that his tweets have been approved by Warner Bros. and DC.

The two script pages shared so far follow Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) as they test out the various superpowers of the titular hero (Zachary Levi).

Zachary Levi Talks The Future Of 'Shazam 2' Amid Shutdowns

Zachary Levi is promising fans that plans for Shazam 2 are still on track, despite Hollywood shutdowns due to coronavirus.

The 39-year-old actor, who plays the titular character in the film, spoke to ET about what’s happening with the movie.

“Right now, they’re writing an amazing script,” Zach shared. “I don’t have any real details on that. I’ve got some generals and they all sound amazing.”

He also acknowledged that whenever the movie is back on track and starts shooting, it will be a new normal for the industry and come with new rules.

“There’s definitely going to be some major protocols that are put in place,” he added. “What those protocols are, I’m not sure yet. I’m doing my own due diligence as an actor waiting to go back to work, but also as a producer and someone who’s trying to create my own world out here in which to produce. I’ve been actively trying to figure out when the gears can start moving a bit again, but I don’t know for sure.”

Shazam 2 got a new release date in December, just months before Hollywood, and many other things, shut down because of the pandemic.

As of right now, Shazam 2 is set to release in November 2022.
