Vanessa Hudgens: Pregnant Teen in 'Gimme Shelter'?

Vanessa Hudgens is close to signing on for the indie drama, Gimme Shelter.

The 22-year-old actress would play a pregnant homeless teen “who flees her abusive mother and seeks out her biological father. He first takes her in but then throws her out when she refuses to abort her child,” THR reports.

Vanessa would star opposite Brendan Fraser, who will be playing the girls’ dad in the Ron Krauss-directed flick.

you know what?? why cant you give her a chance to prove her acting skills??? your jUdging her already.. you dont even know what she have as an actress.. its rude to say that she cant act.. what if, you are vanessa?? and somebody told you that you cant act.. what do you feel???

  • gEn

go VANESSA dont mind those HATERS!!! pRove to them that you have a talent.. ;))

  • tina

I love this. Congratulations Vanessa. Sound good.

  • Louise

This is exactly the type of role Vanessa needs, she is more than capable.

One of her first role was in the indie movie Thirteen and I thought she had chops in Thunderbirds way back before hsm.

She needs a role that challenges her. Beastly was pretty predictable although mostly well done and you could see elements of vulnerability and chops in Sucker Punch but it didnt get past the special effects for me. She needs a strong director that has experience in getting the most out of their actors.

Good on her for finding a meaty role, Brendan can act and I’ve enjoyed quite a lot of his movies, I could definately see this being good if the situation and production is right.

  • luula

    good news!

  • luula

    Congratz V!

  • Ashlee

ABSOLUTELY. Yes, I will see this movie. This is a dramatic role made for Vanessa. I knew when I saw the way she performed in Bandslam that she could do a role exactly like this. I’m betting our girl nailed it in the audition.

    YEAH for Vanessa!!!!

  • mkhay

Im all for expanding your horizons and everything but the only problem is that it isnt believable that Brenden Fraser is her dad.

  • So

    sounds too much for her

  • maria

I think this will finally give her the chance to prove herself and maybe grow as an actress…yes, I will definitely go see this movie.

  • kerri

This sounds great especially because Vanessa will be in it. Well done Vanessa!!!

  • kerri

I wonder who they would cast to play her mother? What about Roselyn Sanchez or Catherine Zeta Jones. Anyone got any ideas?

  • darla

    @gEn:

THIS IS HILARIOUS. SHE ALREADY HAD 4 TO FIVE PROJECT AND 3 OF THAT ARE A FLOP BUT THE CONSENSUS IN ALL OF THEM IS THAT: SHE CAN’T ACT. SHE’S WOODEN SHE’S A TOTAL BLAH. THE PRODUCER MUST HAVE A VERY LOW BUDGET FOR THIS FILM. VANESSA’S GROWING REPUTATION AS A BOXOFFICE FLOP QUEEN
IS MAKING HER CHEAPER TO ACQUIRE.

  • kerri

Love Vanessa or hate her. Either way she is on your mind.

  • maria

@darla: Sorry to burst your brainless bubble, but the only movie that can be considered a flop was Bandslam, and that was VERY well received critically anyway. All actors work in small films when they start, some are successful, some are not. Beastly made back it’s production costs in 2 weeks!!!!, and has yet to be released internationally. It’s doing GREAT for a little movie. Sucker Punch is doing just fine, thank you, and in 5 weeks has made back it’s costs. Just because some critics have the creativity and mindset of a moron, and didn’t bother to try to understand the movie, does NOT make it a flop. And it didn’t “flop” anyway. So do your research first, before making STUPID comments; you obviously don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

  • go sox

So happy for Vanessa. I LOVE, LOVE her movie choices. She is trying different things, and not staying in her comfort zone. She also auditions, and directors she’s worked with have fabulous things to say about her. She has a GREAT work ethic, and gets along with everyone. She’s a great choice for this role…..I can see her working really well with Brendan.

  • kerri

@maria: Your comment made me smile. You tell those hater!!!

  • jo

sounds good! although I think the storry isn’t completely new. It reminds me a bit of the movie “Juno” which was a great hit…so idk.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com BOJI

Well, the storyline is very current and I’m sure Vanessa has got what it takes. I know she’ll give it her all. Am so excited for her. A new talent agency and a new movie to boot. It can only get better.

  • sorella

She looks too old now to play a teen.

  • kerri

@sorella: That is what makeup is for. It can make you appear younger or older.

  • yets

im so excited for this movie.

  • kyle

I hope she nails the job.

  • maria

@sorella: I think Vanessa is blessed with the ability to look older OR younger. Her stature and petite-ness lends itself to younger roles, but she certainly can look older too, like in Sucker Punch. I think that’s a gift for her.

  • naomi

Great to see V tackling indie and a meaty dramatic role.

That’s the route a lot of serious stars take to develop their craft and respect in the industry. Award-winning directors do not look for stars that can deliver BO (they are more interested in recognition than BO), they look for stars that can act . I’ve wanted V to get into indie for a long time and consolidate her acting skills without the distraction of stardom and BO so this is great news.

I’m loving this new phase of her life. She’s clearer on what she wants from her career and life and is not afraid to go out, take a risk and focus on getting it and patiently works towards it. She doesn’t give a hoot about what people or the media think and just carries on. When she faces obstacles or failures, she just side-steps them and carries on.

I’m enjoying the fact that both twats and non-twats alike keep writing her off and yet the babe is still very much in the business, getting good roles, staying grounded, increasing her fanbase, and above all, enjoying her life.

  • Allie

Yes! Love that she’s doing an indie, love that she’s doing a straight-out drama. It’s the only genre that she’s hasn’t done since HSM. Hopefully this will do for Vanessa what An Education did for Carey Mulligan etc.

And, as long as a Hispanic/asian looking woman is cast as her mom, then there is no problem with Brendan Fraser being her dad. She doesn’t need to look like the actor that plays her dad. Mixed race relationships happen.

  • Mia

Nice, now she will be away from her boyfriend for at least 2 months, since she will film in May in Cunnaticut and he in NC for at least 3 months. Why did she break up with Zac? Distance, mmmhh to have a long distance relationship after dating for only 2 months can’t be THAT easy, too. Right?

  • kerri

@Allie: So true i mean Vanessa’s dad is Irish and Native american and her mom is chinese-Filipino-spanish descent.

  • naomi

    @Mia:
    You wish! Watch this space.

  • Mia

    @naomi: What do you mean?
