Janet Jackson: We Wanted Justice Not Revenge for Michael

Janet Jackson covers up while catching a departing flight at LAX Airport on Friday (December 2) in Los Angeles.

The 45-year-old entertainer will be performing at a sold out show in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday (December 4) before heading to Miami for another concert.

Attorney Brian Panish read a statement on behalf of the Jackson family in court right before Dr. Conrad Murray was given the maximum sentence – four years – in the death of Michael Jackson.

“We are not here to seek revenge. There is nothing you can do today that will bring Michael back,” the statement read.

“We respectfully request that you [the judge] impose a sentence that reminds physicians that they cannot sell their services to the highest bidder and cast aside their Hippocratic oath to do no harm. As we all know from this tragedy, doing so can have devastating results,” it added.

  • Helen

    Is she wearing that because she is still with that Arab guy ?

  • Ali

    Please. The whole family knew what was going on – how disturbed MJ was. Surely the doctor had responsibilities which he failed, but he has lost the ability to practice ever again, and 4 years in prison is long enough. The whole family, all of the caretakers and assistants, and especially Jackson himself, were aware of how precarious his life was.

    @Helen:

    MJ was an addict. He seeked out doctors to give him those drugs. All his family must have known this as well as those who worked for him. Murray is guilty only of not saying NO to MJ and his drug addicted ways. Murray could have said no but he did not. But if he had MJ would have found another doctor to do the exact same thing that Murray did. Give him drugs. That is what addicts do.

    If that’s true then Michael should have been found guilty too Dr. Conrad wasn’t in this alone

  • deea

    i’m sure michael doesnt want to see in prison the man who gave him painkillers on HIS request, i am sorry he is dead (RIP)- he was one of the great performs who ever lived, but everybody around him knew what was going on, where was his family that now is seeking justice when, as miss janet says michael became ” the highest bidder” for personal medical services? no one wanted this to happen , not even conrad murray..his only sin may be that he couldnt say NO to michael’s pain , but we will never know what mechanism lies behind his ‘NO” ( greed or empathy or both).

  • Gossipgirl

    Janet is amazing.

  • Mo

    Ewww- Michael Jackson was SO GROSS!!!! HE was a child molester, total whack job- now people are making him out to be some kind of hero. I don’t thin it was this crazy doctor’s fault that MJ died- he woulda probably overdosed anyway- he was so far gone and obviously had so much self hatered.

  • saber

    Right. This doctor gets five years in prison for prescribing drugs for a psychotic celebrity and women who murder their own children get off free. I love our society.

  • saber

    @saber: Sorry, “four” years.

  • Helen

    Saber you frgot about Lindsey Lohan and the crowded jail

  • Melanie

    @saber: I know- it is so messed up- so messed up!!

  • Mo

    @Mo:

    Um, people are not ignoring that MJ had a problem with propofol. But Dr. Murray is the one on trial and they one who agreed to give it to him. If you had been watching the trial, you would know that Dr. Murray was very negligent and told lies to cover up his mistakes. This is why MJ would have eventually wanted him to pay if he could see what he was doing when he found him dead (abandoning him by leaving the room, not calling 911, on the phone with ladies, etc.). Also, MJ’s death was ruled a homicide, which says that they believe that someone else was responsible for his death, which in this case, it’s Dr. Murray. End of story.

    @LisaT: Murray was found quilty because he abandoned his patient and the Hippocratic Oat.The truth prevailed and justice was served.

    Despite the comments to the contary on this article, an acquittal can’t be spun for Murray. The jury decided the verdict of guilty on the evidence, not bias public opinions and media spin.

  • luca

    @Rugged:

    No one is ignoring it. This man was a doctor who took an oath, several of them. He knew better and he should have said no. He didn’t.

    If he didn’t know that having those drugs in the house and giving them in the circumstances that he was doing it was 100% illegal then he was too dumb to have a medical license and deserved having it revoked. but the evidence was that he totally knew and choose to ignore it due to the money etc. Which is why he was charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
