John Mayer: Botox Injections Gave My Voice a New Life

John Mayer wears his signature cowboy hat as he leaves Craig’s restaurant on Thursday (March 28) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 35-year-old singer recently opened up to Billboard about how Botox injections saved his singing voice.

“I probably had contiguously three, maybe four months of not saying a word,” John said. “The endurance was tough for me, but I started a new life. It’s hard to believe that I’m healed, but just to make sure, I keep going back every two weeks for a look, and it’s the same-if not better.”

“I’m never a quitter,” he added. “That’s how my mind works. Everything I stand for is about fighting through and never backing down.”

@lala: Botox paralyzes the vocal folds (vocal cords) so that they cannot come together to vibrate (vibration of the vocal folds is what produces your voice – or at least voiced speech). Having some sort of growth on the folds and then having surgery to remove that would require a lot of healing time – hence the botox. It makes it so the vocal folds cannot move to come together and are able to heal. It does, however, make is impossible to voice sounds (you can talk in a whisper but that’s about it).

Well, I LOVE John Mayer. I am a big fan. I am so happy his voice is better. However, I am concerned that he booked such a busy tour. I looked at his tour schedule and it seems a really heavy load to put on his voice after what he has been through. I wonder why he chose to do that? I wish him all he best. Love you John!

Interesting use of Botox. Botox just seems to be useful for more and more medical symptoms. I wish him luck in his healing.
