'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' Wins Third Consecutive Weekend Box Office

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues to slay the weekend box office, winning its third in a row with a $29.9 million gross, according to THR.

Coming close in second was Disney’s Frozen, earning an additional $28.8 million and bringing it’s North American total to $248.3 million.

In third place was Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, starring Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate, which grossed $20.2 million, giving it a domestic total of $83.7 million, just shy of the $85.3 million earned by the first film.

Rounding out the top five were American Hustle, boasting Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, and Jennifer Lawrence, and Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, which brought in $19.6 million and $18.5 million, respectively.

Also opening on Christmas weekend was Ben Stiller‘s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which made $13 million, while Keanu Reeves47 Ronin grossed $9.9 million, and Justin Bieber‘s new docu-film Believe disappointed with $2 million.
