Scarlett Johansson Ends Role as Oxfam Ambassador After SodaStream Controversy

Scarlett Johansson has cut ties with Oxfam after being criticized for her role as the spokesperson to SodaStream, an Israeli company that operates in the West Bank.

The humanitarian group criticized the 29-year-old actress for supporting the company as the group opposes all trade from Israeli settlements, as they believe they are illegal and deny Palestinian rights.

“Scarlett Johansson has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years,” her rep said in a statement (via AP). “She and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. She is very proud of her accomplishments and fundraising efforts during her tenure with Oxfam.”
