Kirsten Dunst Says Actors on the Casting Couch 'Court That Stuff'

Kirsten Dunst meets up with a female pal for a bite to eat on Monday afternoon (April 21) in Los Angeles.

The 31-year-old actress recently covered a special issue of W magazine, and caused some controversy with her response to a question about if a director had ever made an inappropriate move on her.

“I don’t give off that vibe,” Kirsten said. “I think you court that stuff and to me, it’s crossing a boundary that would hinder the trust in your working relationship.”

I always thought the casting couch was a myth, but with these latest headlines about Terry Richardson and film casting directors…do people REALLY sleep with these photographers, casting agents, producers and directors to get parts? EWW! Even A and B list actors who have a reputation in the industry enough to get work on their own? In an industry with so many loose lips, how do these actors and higher ups actually get away with this without being outed in the news?

Irrelevant moron.

# 3

@Meg: People (victims)are afraid to talk, and many of the higher ups do it, and they have power allies. It’s treated as “not a big deal” in Hollywood.

YOU’RE A DELUSIONAL FOOL, KIRSTEN

jeez people won’t leave this one alone, will they? i read the whole article and in my interpretation she was talking about a director “flirting” or suggesting something and she is always very serious in work what cuts the predator’s “vibe” even before he says or do anything and not that people “court” sexual harrament. of course it’s not a correct way of thinking in my opinion, but calling her a moron is a bit too much.

I agree that some people “court” it, but there are also victims who are subjected to harassment without doing anything wrong. I wish she’d be more careful in her word choice; otherwise, she perpetuates the whole “blame the victim” mindset.

@Jenna: she has been working since she was practically a baby, she has many colleagues that have possibly gone through this and are too scared to speak up and she herself could’ve been managed around sick people back when she was more popular as a child/teen actor in the 90s, the more famous you are, you are exposed moreso to the industry bigwigs that have more than enough money to shush lawyers and the govt up. for her to act ignorant and say the actors court the attention is the farthest thing from the truth, especially child/teen actors that have these adults taking advantage of them, these adults tell these kids that it’s normal to do these sexual things so what in the world would kirsten perceive as normal in her industry considering she’s been doing this all her life? good for her if she’s never had a bad casting couch experience but she shouldn’t speak for others that have had unfortunate experiences.

@Truthie: Thanks for replying to me. I understand that there are many victims because I read about some entertainment “newbies” who were being victimized and didn’t stop it. But, what about the actresses who willingly know what they’re doing and do it to get the part and it’s still never brought to light? I know they’re essentially all victimized, but from what I’ve heard, some of them know exactly what they’re doing and are willing participants. Why stoop that low to get a part? All of it, every aspect, sounds disgusting. I truly hope all of the directors, producers, actors, etc. are not about this way of doing business.

Yes there are victims of a power plays by directors, etc.
But, she was talking about the more frequent habits of some actresses (and actors) that like to f^ck for parts, more screen time, preferential treatment on set, etc., etc. It’s often unnecessary and something initiated by the actress/actor looking to get ahead in a very competitive field where, one minute you’re hot- next minute, you’re a has been loser.

Basically a privileged moron comment.

@Meg:
It is NOT a myth. And also…people don’t court it. People in power get away with it because everyone is afraid to say anything. They can ruin you…and in the case of the Gay mafia…Brian Singer’s group…they can make you disappear. Kirsten is showing what a dumbass she is once again.

@Toni: Wow. Well, as an aspiring actress, that doesn’t sit well with me at all. I sure hope that’s not the only way to make it in the industry.

All this casting couch talk reminds me of Natalie Wood, who was pushed by her mother to sleep with a much older, powerful director. She was basically raped when she was 14. Sometimes people court certain behavior and sometimes people (especially young people) are abused and taken advantage of.
