Graceland's Vanessa Ferlito Talks Charlie's Ongoing Guilt & Rocky Relationship with Briggs

Tonight marks the season two premiere of Graceland and JJ‘s keeping the scoop coming!

This time we caught up with Vanessa Ferlito as Charlie, the fast-talking, badass FBI agent who has a lot of guilt from last season that carries over into this year’s story.

After befriending someone who turned out to be the enemy, she’s a little gun shy when it comes to going undercover. Not to mention, she and Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) have a lot to work out. Vanessa opened up about what we can expect. Check it:

Graceland returns TONIGHT, June 11 @ 10PM on USA!

JustJared.com: How does this season compare to the first?

Vanessa Ferlito: Last season was really heavy. I mean, I was on heroin, it was hardcore. It’s different this season. I feel like in the beginning, you think it’s kind of light…Charlie’s really messed up. Really messed up from last season. She doesn’t know if Briggs is Odin. I mean, she’s hoping and assuming that maybe he’s just not, because how could he be? How could he be such a bad person? I don’t think he’s thinking about all the stuff that happened. A lot comes to light. It’s a little quiet. You think everything’s alright, and then the worst sh-t that you could ever think of happens to Charlie. Not like in a physical way, I feel like in a more mental and emotional way. So I’m really screwed up.

JustJared.com Interview – Vanessa Ferlito

JJ: So she hasn’t recovered much from where we left off?

VF: No, no. She’s traumatized. Because what’s so crazy is, she thinks she’s the reason that everything fell apart, and [Briggs] f-cking lets her live with that. He still doesn’t tell her the truth. That he really is Odin. And this season she gets back with him. They constantly just play mind games and you just want to believe that they’re someone else.

JJ: We saw Charlie start doubting herself because Jangles was right under her nose and she didn’t suspect him. Does that carry over?

VF: Yes! Yeah. She doesn’t want to do stuff in the beginning. She’s undercover but they want to do all this stuff and she’s like, “Can I play the background a little bit?” And she’s one of their best undercover people, and Mike’s trying to get her to do sh-t and she’s just like, “Mmm, maybe you should ask somebody else.” In the beginning, that’s how it starts. And then her confidence starts to build a little more. But then, oh my God, I can’t even tell you what happens. You’re gonna die!

JJ: What’s Charlie’s relationship like with the new roommate that’s in the house the first couple episodes?

VF: Eh, she likes him. She likes him. But I feel like Charlie’s like, “You’re not one of the originals. You’re fine, but you can go.” She likes him. He’s cool, he’s a nice kid…I don’t know, is that mean? Yeah, he just goes away. Maybe he’ll come back, but we actually have somebody coming back this season from the beginning of last season, somebody’s coming back. I’m not going to say anything!

JJ: Serinda told us that she’d love for Paige and Charlie to team up. Would you like to do that, and what could you see them working together on?

VF: Oh yeah. They most likely won’t because we’re two girls, and what are the boys going to be doing? I don’t know. There’s too much testosterone, they have to throw a little bit of woman in there. I would love that, of course. I love working with all of them, they’re all great. I never really work with her though, and that’s probably why. Yeah, I’d love that, she’s fantastic. She has a lot of great stuff this season, too.

JJ: Charlie called Mike a rat, and was pretty upset about that whole thing. How does she feel when he comes back?

VF: Mike comes back very different this season. He’s on one. He’s very different from last year, and right away he gets in my face and starts asking about sh-t from the past. And I’m like, “Listen, don’t go riling sh-t up around here. It’s been really cool.” But she’s in denial. You know, Charlie was always sticking up for Mike. She loves him and everybody was always giving him shit but I feel like she was the only one that had his back. This season he’s like the man. He comes back and he’s got a lot of power, and he’s throwing his weight around, and I’m happy with what’s going on with Briggs and I’m afraid that what happened last season is going to repeat itself. So I’m on the fence with Mike right now. And I have to take his orders and I’m not happy about that either.
