'Moana' Directors Discuss Possibility of LGBTQ Disney Princess!

Disney’s hot new animated movie Moana is winning over audiences everywhere – it brought in a staggering $15.7 million at the box office on Thanksgiving eve!

The film features Disney’s first Polynesian princess, Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho), whom directors Ron Clements and John Musker describe as “badass.”

“We made [Moana's] legs fuller and her hips are fuller to make her capable of these action stunts that we wanted to do, where she can dive off cliffs and those sort of things,” John told Huffington Post, adding that the flick is “pushing [Moana] into new territory.”

With all the “new territory” explored in creating this movie, the duo also discussed the possibility of featuring Disney’s first LGBTQ princess!

“It seems like the possibilities are pretty open at this point,” John added. “It would be driven by a director or a directorial team that really wanted to push that and if [Disney Animation's Chief Creative Officer] John Lasseter liked the idea, but I would say we haven’t ever really [had] restrictions placed on what we’ve done.”
