Andrew Garfield Felt He Was Meant To Do 'Silence' For His 'Spiritual Development'

The trailer for Andrew Garfield‘s upcoming movie Silence was released this past week, and now, he’s opening up about why he decided to do the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie.

“I don’t think I am called to be a priest,” the 33-year-old actor told the New York Times about playing the role of Father Rodrigues. “But I had the feeling that I was being called to something: called to work with one of the great directors, and called to this role as something I had to pursue for my spiritual development.”

Andrew got to the point where he could out-Jesuit a Jesuit,” Martin added. “There were places in the script where he would stop and say, ‘A Jesuit wouldn’t say that,’ and we would come up with something else.”

Last night (November 27), Andrew was spotted cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers alongside a friend and the Red Hot Chili PeppersFlea court side at their Atlanta Hawks game at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

FYI: Andrew is wearing an Everlane sweater.
