Academy Reacts to Muslim Ban Affecting Oscar Nominees

The Motion Picture Academy is speaking out after reports that Oscar nominee Asghar Farhadi might not be able to attend the 2017 Academy Awards due to the “Muslim Ban” ordered by President Donald Trump.

The president has signed an executive order that will temporarily ban visas for people from several Muslim countries, including Farhadi‘s Iran.

The director is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film for his movie The Salesman. He previously won the Oscar in 2012 for his movie A Separation.

“The Academy celebrates achievement in the art of filmmaking, which seeks to transcend borders and speak to audiences around the world, regardless of national, ethnic, or religious differences,” a spokesperson for the organization said in a statement (via THR). “As supporters of filmmakers—and the human rights of all people—around the globe, we find it extremely troubling that Asghar Farhadi, the director of the Oscar-winning film from Iran A Separation, along with the cast and crew of this year’s Oscar-nominated film The Salesman, could be barred from entering the country because of their religion or country of origin.”

Lets see if Liberal Hollywood will actually do something about this. Rather then tweeting and releasing statements. I hope they will find a way for him to come to the award show.

Religious minorities (Christians, Buddhist etc.), women and gays in Muslim countries are treated like trash, but Hollywood doesn’t give a f*ck about that.

It’s not a Muslim ban, it applies to people from several countries that support terrorism, and puts in place extreme vetting. Just like Carter did in 1979 with Iran.
