Topher Grace Reveals What Makes His Podcast Different & Original (Exclusive Interview)

Topher Grace launched his new podcast Minor Adventures with Topher Grace last week and it’s one of the most enjoyable listens you’ll have these days!

The 40-year-old actor’s podcast doesn’t feature standard interviews. Instead, he and executive producer Sim Sarna go on actual adventures with their celebrity guests each week.

The guys tackle everything from taking a lie detector test to having a seance to learning how to beatbox… and each time their guest has absolutely no idea what’s in store for them!

We caught up with Topher to learn more about the new podcast:

JUST JARED: What made you want to start a podcast in such a saturated market?

TOPHER GRACE: It’s true, there are over 7.82 billion podcasts in the U.S. alone. But, ironically, I think there are only a handful that are good. I was promoting BlacKkKlansman on one of the good ones – ‘Unqualified’ with my friend Anna Faris – and we had a blast together. Afterwards her producer, Sim Sarna, asked me if I’d be interested in my own show and I said, “No. I’m too boring!” But he came up with an amazing format that allows me to go on these little adventures with our guest and not have to really be a host or anything.

JJ: Where have you been recording your podcasts?

TG: We record them at the Unqualified offices in Hollywood and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had! Some of these adventures are crazy, so we’ll have to black out the windows if we’re having a seance or bring in instruments if we’re writing a song.

JJ: How does it feel turning the tables now that you’re doing the interviewing?

TG: I’m still a terrible interviewer! But I’m lucky that a lot of the guests are my friends. And I’m always game for whatever adventure we’re going on, whether or not it’s something I’m good at. Just the other day Nina Dobrev and I learned how to DJ and she was WAY better than me. I mean, so much better it was embarrassing.

JJ: Who was your favorite guest to interview so far?

TG: Getting hooked up to a lie-detector machine with Whitney Cummings was hilarious and learning how to beat-box with Chrissy Metz was one of the craziest days of my life… but if I had to choose one, my old friend Wilmer Valderrama came on the show and we learned how to be a movie announcer. We actually had in the guy who says, “IN A WORLD…” at the beginning of trailers! Wilmer’s one of my great friends in life and that’s something we always used to pretend to do between scenes on 70s Show.

JJ: Who’s your dream guest and how will you make that dream come true?

TG: I want to have on all different types of people – musicians, politicians, comedians, authors – I just want to make sure that they’re always going on an adventure that takes them out of their comfort zone. I don’t want to see Bruno Mars write a song, I want to see him learning hostage negotiation or dabbling in the stock market or whatever.
