Brad Pitt Speaks Candidly About Getting Sober, Attending Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings

Brad Pitt was asked about his family, getting sober with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous, and more in his new interview with Alcoholics Anonymous.

During an interview with the New York Times, the 55-year-old actor was asked about the time in his life when he was making Ad Astra. “I had family stuff going on,” Brad said, referencing his divorce from Angelina Jolie. “We’ll leave it at that.”

On the loneliness he experienced during that time, Brad said, “The fact is, we all carry pain, grief and loss. We spend most of our time hiding it, but it’s there, it’s in you. So you open up those boxes.”

He also spoke about drinking alcohol, saying, “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges.”

On attending AA meetings, he said, “You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard. It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself…It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself. There’s great value in that.”
