Cher is opening up about how she tried to volunteer with the US Postal Service, amid reports that the national mail service is on the brink of bankruptcy.

The 74-year-old legendary musician shared in a few tweets that she was serious about volunteering her time to help the mail service out with backlogged mail delivery and more.

However, Cher revealed she was turned away.

CNN reported that the USPS doesn’t accept volunteers, but is hiring for upcoming seasonal work.

The American Postal Workers Union — which represents thousands of mail workers — did thank Cher for her effort in a response on Twitter.

“Thank you for standing up for the USPS! If you’d like to DM us, we’d love to talk about how you can get more involved,” they wrote.
