It was an evening full of great music and fun performances at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at Staples Center on Thursday (September 6) in Los Angeles.

The big winner of the evening was One Direction, who went home with three awards – Best Pop Video, Best New Artist, and Best Share-Worthy Video for “What Makes You Beautiful”.

Rihanna went home with Video of the Year for her song “We Found Love,” Chris Brown won Male Video, and Nicki Minaj won Best Female Video.

Demi Lovato is pretty in a little black dress as she rocks the stage at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show held at Staples Center on Thursday (September 6) in Los Angeles.

The 19-year-old musician took home the Best Video with a Message award for her hit song “Skyscraper”. Congrats, Demi!

“This will actually set a lot of my performances apart,” Demi shared during an interview before she performed. “This is going to be something I think everyone’s going to be surprised by. I can’t give away too much, but it’s going to be really cool. And I’m excited.”

Demi was later seen wearing a second LBD as she presented an award on stage with Rita Ora.

The 32-year-old singer opened with her hit song “Get The Party Started” and then performed her current single “Blow Me (One Last Kiss).”

“Being a part of the VMAs for me is extra special because my mom never let me used to watch MTV as a little girl,” Pink recently told MTV. “I would watch it anyway but she would also try and ground me but then I would just sneak out my window and go to someone’s house that had MTV so to be on MTV is quite ironic.”

Rihanna is red hot during her performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at Staples Center on Thursday (September 6) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old singer performed her new song “Cockiness” alongside A$AP Rocky and her hit single “We Found Love” with Calvin Harris, who also served as the house DJ for the evening.

During the show, Rihanna sat next to her BFF Katy Perry!

Emma Watson brightens up the red carpet at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at Staples Center on Thursday (September 6) in Los Angeles.

The 22-year-old British actress posed for pics with her Perks of Being a Wallflower co-star Ezra Miller before heading inside.

Ke$ha hits the red carpet at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at Staples Center on Thursday (September 6) in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old singer announced her new single “Die Young” while she was being interviewed on the carpet!

“I’m happy to announce my new single is called ‘Die Young’ and it will be released this month,” K$ said.

Earlier in the evening, Ke$ha tweeted a naked photo of herself while she was getting glammed up for the evening. “just naked brushing my teeth pre VMAs,” she wrote.
