Ewan McGregor Visits Northern Iraq with UNICEF: Children Are 'Exposed to Unimaginable Horrors'

UNICEF Ambassador Ewan McGregor holds hand with a young child while on a trip to Northern Iraq, which took place last week.

Conflict across Syria and Iraq has resulted in children being killed, injured, separated from families, and more as the situations intensify.

“Children uprooted by conflict can find themselves alone, without family and in grave danger. No child should be alone. Many of the children I’ve met in Iraq have been forced to flee their homes, risking their lives on dangerous journeys and have been exposed to unimaginable horrors,” Ewan said in a statement. “One girl I met called Mirna told me how her family slept in a disused, half-constructed shopping mall for over a year. The community donated food, clothes and supplies to her family and really came together to welcome displaced people. This act of humanity should be replicated everywhere, especially on our own doorsteps. It’s up to us to tell our friends, our neighbors and our governments that refugees are welcome.”

Ewan McGregor Reveals He Was in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Ewan McGregor just confirmed that he did have a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens while making an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Thursday (April 7).

The 45-year-old actor, who played a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in early Star Wars films, said that his role was pretty small and he doesn’t even remember where he spoke!

“Well hardly, my voice was in it for a second! I recorded a little line in it,” he explained. “I don’t remember where I speak, I have no idea!”

While, Ewan‘s full line was “Rey… these are your first steps,” he explained that Alec Guinness was the one who said “Rey.”

He also added that the line was a very last minute addition, “J.J. Abrams emailed me out of the blue…It was about two weeks before the film was released, so it was obviously sort of last minute.”

While promoting Miles Ahead, Ewan revealed that production is officially underway for Trainspotting 2 to start filming in May.

“The script only arrived very recently, which was really, really, really good. I think, if that had not happened, none of us would be into it,” Ewan told Collider. “I think we’re all sort of somewhat protective of what Trainspotting means to people, and what it means to us. None of us want to make a poor sequel to it. So had we not been presented with the most extraordinary script, which we were, I think we wouldn’t be making the sequel. But because we were, we are.”
