“The real golden ticket here is the Mugworth V-Steam,” the 42-year-old actress wrote. “You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al.”
“It is an energetic release – not just a steam douche – that balances female hormone levels. If you’re in L.A., you have to do it,” Gwyneth said. She frequents the Tikkun Spa in Santa Monica for her treatments.
However, a board certified OB/GYN named Dr. Jen Gunter is disputing Gwyneth‘s claims and says the steam may actually be bad for you.
“Steam is probably not good for [you]. Herbal steam is no better and quite possibly worse,” she writes on her blog. “Steam isn’t going to get into your uterus…unless you are using an attachment with some kind of pressure and MOST DEFINITELY NEVER EVER DO THAT.”
Another doctor, Dr. David L. Finke says that while it could be beneficial in some aspects, “As far as bold claims that doing this will change hormonal balance or cleanse the uterus, it’s probably bogus.”
