Lesley Gore has died at the age of 68, her partner confirmed to the Associated Press.
The singer-songwriter died on Monday (February 16) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital after a battle with cancer. She is best known for her hit song “It’s My Party,” which went to number one in 1963, was nominated for a Grammy, and sold over one million copies.
Lesley‘s other hit songs include the sequel “Judy’s Turn to Cry,” “She’s a Fool,” and “You Don’t Own Me,” which also topped a million copies and landed at number two.
In her later career, Lesley composed songs for the movie Fame and received an Oscar nomination for writing “Out Here on My Own.”
