Jenna Bush Hager Tearfully Apologizes for 'Hidden Fences' Mistake on Golden Globes Red Carpet

Jenna Bush Hager is speaking out after she was criticized for accidentally calling the movie Hidden Figures by the name “Hidden Fences” during an interview with Pharrell Williams on the 2017 Golden Globe Awards red carpet.

The 35-year-old former First Daughter was one of the red carpet hosts for NBC’s pre-show and her flub was a combination of the movies Hidden Figures and Fences.

Jenna offered a tearful apology on The Today Show on Monday morning (January 9).

“I had an error in the night that I have to apologize for,” Jenna said. “When I was interviewing the incomparable Pharrell, who I adore, I accidentally, in the electricity of the red carpet, which I’ve never done one before… I called Hidden Figures, ‘Hidden Fences.’”

“I’ve seen both movies, I thought they were both brilliant. I’ve interviewed casts from both of the movies. And if I offended people, I am deeply sorry,” Jenna said. “It was a mistake. You all know, I am not perfect. I’m authentic, but a human. And what I didn’t want to do was make anybody feel lesser than who they are.”

Pharrell Williams' Film 'Hidden Figures' Called 'Hidden Fences' By Jenna Bush Hager

Pharrell Williams and Hidden Figures producer Mimi Valdes walked the red carpet together at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards today.

While walking the red carpet, Pharrell stopped to speak to Jenna Bush Hager during a pre-show interview. Jenna made a huge gaff during the interview, asking about the nonexistent film “Hidden Fences,” which combines “Hidden Figures” and “Fences,” two different films.

“So you’re nominated for “Hidden Fences,” Jenna said. “How cool is it? You said this party is known for a little drinking. Are you thinking you’re going to partake?”

Pharrell was nominated for Best Original Score for the film.

VIDEO: Pharrell Williams Agrees With Ellen DeGeneres' Decision Not To Have Kim Burrell On Her Show

Pharrell Williams and Ellen DeGeneres had an open discussion about why Kim Burrell didn’t appear on the show to sing with him.

The 58-year-old host decided to disinvite her after she went on a homophobic rant.

“You were supposed to perform it with a singer, I actually didn’t know her, her name is Kim Burrell,” Ellen said. “She made a statement she was doing a Facebook live and she said some very not nice things about homosexuals so I didn’t feel that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she was saying things about me. So we’ll let you talk about it.”

Pharrell said, “There’s no space, there’s no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017 and moving on. There’s no room. She’s a fantastic singer, I love her, just like I love everybody else and we all got to get used to that. We got to get used to we all have to get used to everyone’s differences and understand that this is a big, gigantic, beautiful, colorful world and it only works with inclusion and empathy. It only works that way.”

Pharrell Williams on Supporting Hillary Clinton: 'I Did It So I Could Sleep'

Pharrell Williams takes the cover of Esquire magazine’s February 2017 issue.

Here’s what the 43-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag:

On his music: “I think everything is given to us. Everything is. We didn’t create it. It’s being given to us in one shape or form. It is a deep delusion to think otherwise. I’m not the juice. I’m not the ice that makes it cool. And I’m certainly not the glass. I’m just the straw.”

On his 2013 hit “Happy”: “I noticed that there was a lot of pain going on around the world. Then you start thinking about why people might have needed that song, and it becomes very heavy.”

On why he supported Hillary Clinton: “I did it so I could sleep. So whatever happens, I know I tried. This has kept me up at night. The kind of divisions that this nation is seeing—it hasn’t been this way since the 60s.”
