'Power Rangers' Is Getting a Film & TV Reboot!

The Power Rangers are coming back for more action.

It’s the End of the F—ing World creator Jonathan Entwistle will lead the next series of screen adaptations as part of Hasbro’s eOne, THR reported Wednesday (October 21).

The new initiative will “see Entwistle overseeing, and directing, both film and television adaptations.”

Jonathan has an incredible creative vision for this iconic and hugely successful franchise, and is hands down the right architect to join us as we reimagine the television and film worlds of this property. Across our slate, we are looking forward to working with the most talented storytellers as we take on Hasbro’s rich fan-favourite brands and build entertainment universes around them,” eOne’s film president Nick Meyer and global television president Michael Lombardo said in a joint statement.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans. We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success,” said Jonathan.

Power Rangers was a ’90s TV series initially called The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, using footage from a Japanese children’s show. The show first aired on Fox Kids, along with a movie in 1995.

In 2017, Lionsgate rebooted the franchise for a film.

'Power Rangers' Sequel Could Feature Female Green Ranger!

Future sequels to the Power Rangers movie could be featuring a female Green Power Ranger!

In the TV series, the Green Ranger is known as Tommy Oliver, who is male.

“A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even: three girls, three boys,” director Dean Israelite told THR. “It’s left blank. It’s a cliff-hanger. Whoever you’re going to drop into that position – whether it’s a girl – it’s inevitably going to create drama. It’ll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it.”

The end-credits scene of the film teases the debut of the Green Ranger, though doesn’t make mention of the sex of the character.

The 'Power Rangers' Cast Give Back in Big Ways on Premiere Day

The Power Rangers stars show off their fight poses during a school assembly on Friday (March 24) in Los Angeles.

The cast — Becky G, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott and Ludi Lin — hosted a fun assembly at the 116th Elementary School, where they donated a ton of school supplies with Yoobi.

Later on, the cast headed to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for a special screening of their new film and met with teen patients at CHLA’s Teen Lounge, where they also dropped off posters and action figures from the flick.

Pink Ranger Naomi even made one patient an honorary ranger, by drawing another ranger figure on back of one of the posters.

'Power Rangers' Sequels Are Being Planned - Here's the Scoop!

The new movie Power Rangers is in theaters now and if it becomes a box office success, there are many sequels being planned for the franchise!

Haim Saban, the film’s producer and the founder of Saban Entertainment, revealed that a “six-film arc” is in the works.

Power Rangers director Dean Israelite confirmed the plan for five more films in the franchise.

“It is true that the Saban team, even before I came on to this project, had a document that laid out six movies, so Haim isn’t just saying that flippantly,” he told EW. “Obviously I was just incredibly focused on getting this one right and setting up the origin story while thinking about teasing the second one, so as far as I’ve gotten in terms of real discussion, creatively, we’ve only gotten kind of into the second one. We just haven’t had the time to really sit down and talk about the full six, but there’s no doubt there is enough material for it, absolutely no doubt that the franchise could be that big.”

“There’s a lot of ideas that are floating around and that we’re kicking around,” he added. “As you know, the universe is so expansive. There’s a lot to draw from.”

If you see Power Rangers in theaters this weekend, make sure to stay for the post-credits scene!
