A man wearing a Barcelona shirt and holding a flag disrupted the finals by rushing towards Roger Federer and tried to put a hat on him during the second set in front of stunned spectators at the 2009 French Open on Sunday (June 7), in Paris, France.
“All of a sudden I heard the crowd, and I looked over and he jumped over the fence or something,” Federer said afterward. “That gave me a fright, just, like, seeing him so close right away.” After the incident, Federer, 27, beat Robin Soderling in three sets and now that he has tied Pete Sampras at 14 majors.
“Now the question is, am I the greatest of all time? We don’t know, but I definitely have many things going for me because I’ve finally won all four Grand Slams and I’m particularly happy reaching Pete‘s 14,” he said.
