Zoey Deutch hits the carpet at the special screening of her movie Before I Fall on Tuesday (February 28) at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City.

The 22-year-old actress was joined by co-star Jennifer Beals and director Ry Russo-Young. Earlier in the day she stepped out for an interview on The Today Show.

Zoey recently opened up about her ambition and why she’s not afraid to use that word.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about the word ‘ambition.’ I love what I do and I’m ambitious. I don’t know why that word has a bad rap. It just means to work hard for what you want and love, as far as I’m concerned. I was always raised to work hard. I always knew what my purpose was. I always knew what I wanted to do and that I had to work hard for it. And also have a sense of humor,” Zoey told Metro. “Have you ever looked at the word ‘ambition?’ The reason I bring that up is that when a female uses it, it’s like a bad word. When I say the word ‘ambition’ it has a negative connotation. Literally the word ‘ambition’ is a desire to do or achieve something requiring determination or hard work. I take that as a really positive, empowering thing.”

The 22-year-old actress, who has two movies at the festival this year, co-hosted the lunch alongside Glamour‘s Cindi Leive, Girlgaze‘s Amanda de Cadenet, and actresses Salma Hayek, Jessica Williams, and Alfre Woodard. The event took place on Tuesday (January 24) in Park City, Utah.

Some of the other women in attendance at the event included Elle Fanning, Shirley MacLaine, Michaela Watkins, Michelle Morgan, Sanaa Lathan, and Zoey‘s Before I Fall director Ry Russo-Young.

Zoey spoke to WWD at the festival to explain how doing press there is so much different than for other movies.

“Generally when you are doing movie press, you are holed up in a room and you don’t see sunlight for 13 hours and this is so beautiful,” she said while looking out a window at the snowy scenery.

The two joined the other cast on the carpet — Halston Sage, Elena Kampouris, Logan Miller, Medalion Rahimi, Jennifer Beals, Cynthy Wu, Liv Hewson and Kian Lawley — for the premiere event, as well as author Lauren Olivier.

“Sam’s journey was one I could really use to ask those deeper questions about what it is to be human and how we live our lives,” Ry shared in a new interview about the movie.

She adds, “I thought that was really intense and that we should all be asking ourselves those questions no matter what age we are.”

The 22-year-old actress was joined by the cast of the film – Jennifer Beals, Elena Kampouris, Logan Miller, Cynthy Wu, and Medalion Rahimi – and director Ry Russo-Young to promote the film at the IMDb Studio on Friday (January 20) in Park City, Utah.

While festival audiences can see the movie this weekend at Sundance, the movie hits theaters everywhere on March 3.
