'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Breaks Box Office Record for April with $96 Million Opening!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier smashed this weekend’s box office with a whopping $96 million opening domestically and $303.3 million globally!
According to THR, the superhero sequel, starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, grossed $37 million from 3,938 theaters on Friday, the biggest day ever for the month of April.
Coming in at No. 2 was Noah, which fell 60 percent to $17 million. The films stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, and Emma Watson.
Taking the third spot was Shailene Woodley and Theo James‘ Divergent, bringing in $13 million and pushing its domestic total to $114 million.
Rounding out the top five were the Christian film God’s Not Dead and The Grand Budapest Hotel, which brought in $7.7 million and $6.3 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Lars von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac: Vol. 2 seemingly bombed with a $75,000 debut from 30 theaters.
